Financial Resources

Some patients need help paying for their mammograms at the breast center. Below is a list of community resources that offer funding for patients who cannot afford screening mammograms and other breast imaging services.

Please note that the Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC) in Tacoma closed in July 2012. A variety of other organizations have taken over many of the services previously provided by the BCRC. Please review this section, as well as the Local Resources section, for details.

Apple Health (WA State Medicaid)

Open enrollment is all year round. Coverage is available for women and men 19-64. Must be a WA state resident. Must be U.S. Citizen or legal resident and meet income requirements.

BCCHP (Breast, Colon & Cervical Health Program)

BCCHP enrolls patients in a state funded program, you may qualify for full coverage Breast, Colon and Cervical cancer screening. Enrollment is on a yearly basis. Must not be eligible for Apple Health and meet income requirements.

Carol Milgard Breast Center Financial Assistance 

Our breast center has funds to help uninsured patients or those that have insurance but cannot afford high deductible. Eligibility is based on income and household size for women and men ages 40+ not eligible for Apple Health.

Carol Milgard Breast Center First Look Voucher Program

(Formerly the Breast Cancer Resource Center Early Detection Voucher Program)

This program provides financial assistance for women ages 34 and younger or men of any age – who are uninsured, low income, experiencing breast problems and in need of diagnostic breast imaging services.

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Financial Assistance 

Patients seeking treatment or care from any Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) clinic or hospital can apply for financial assistance. If you have been awarded financial assistance through VMFH, CMBC will grant match their aid.

Patients seeking treatment or care from any MultiCare Health System (MHS) clinic or hospital can apply for financial assistance. If you have been awarded financial assistance through MHS, CMBC will grant match their aid.

Pierce County Project Access

Donated Care- Through donated care patients can obtain care at no cost. Patients can enroll in the program every six months as long as they meet income requirements and agree to go to all appointment.

Premium Assistance-  Program assists those eligible for insurance through the exchange pay for premiums if they’re too high. Must meet income requirements. Not eligible for Apple Health or Medicare.

WA Health Exchange

Not eligible for the above programs? You may be eligible for a federal tax credit to help you obtain insurance. You must meet income requirements and be a permanent resident or citizen of the U.S to qualify. Open enrollments begins every November.
