Breast Center Celebrates Important Milestone
On June 10, 2013, the Carol Milgard Breast Center officially launched 3D mammography, also known as digital breast tomosynthesis. We were proud to be the first to provide this revolutionary technology in Pierce County. In addition, last October the breast center became the first on the west coast to provide 3D-guided breast biopsy.
Over the past year through the use of 3D mammography, the breast center has been able to detect more than 150 abnormalities that would not have otherwise been detected using 2D imaging alone. This means more lives are being saved.
Our thanks go out to the Gary E. Milgard Family Foundation for their generous gift which made the implementation of this amazing technology possible. We’d also like to thank our owners, Franciscan Health System and MultiCare Health System, as well as managing partner, TRA Medical Imaging, for their continued support.
